Culinary Showcase highlights Houston’s Black Chefs and Caterers

Houston’s official Black Restaurant Week (April 3rd – April 10th) is dedicated to increasing the awareness, support and patronization of Black owned restaurants in the city. A portion of the week’s proceeds will be donated to Change Happens! a local non-profit dedicated to empowering our youth.

Houston Black Restaurant Week consists of a  jam packed lineup of events to get the community out and moving! This past week I attended NOSH: A Culinary Showcase highlighting Houston’s Black Chefs and Caterers.

The Official Houston Black Restaurant Week kick off event was stellar! The walls of Houston’s Ensemble Theater were lined with amazing talent from the city’s Black culinary scene. A few of Houston’s favorites were participants of this food-filled culinary showcase. Acclaimed Chef, Javani King was on hand serving up his crispy-crunchy Thai inspired shrimp that left guests satisfied in one single bite.

Yolanda “Chef Yo” Henry of Nuksy’s Fine Catering stole my heart with her Rum bruleed Bananas, I paired mine with her meat pie for a savory, sweet mash up. Chef Clinton Jackson of CJ’s Masterpiece not only had some of the best chicken salad i’ve ever tasted by his booth decor was top notch!

Among the savory superstars were some of my favorite sweet shops. If you follow my social media you know how in love I am with Cupcake Kitchen Houston, who, if I might add hosts $2 Cupcake specials every Saturday & Tuesday at the bakery.

Culinary Showcase

Patrice Farooq is one of the bakers behind some of the best cupcakes and cookies in H-Town! CKH brought a delicious array of their many cupcake flavors, pudding cups and cookies. This is where most of my calories were consumed.  Their Banana pudding cupcake sent my taste buds into a tizzy.

I made plenty of other stops along my eating journey as there were three separate spaces to eat in. The lobby was jam packed so the extra spaces really helped guest maneuver through. Drunkn Chickn served up tasty wings dipped in an a alcohol/sauce base. The Ciroc Green Apple chicken wings were interesting.  Tipsy Dessert Bar and Kita’s Kandy Creations were crowd favorites. All of the participants are amazing, professional and available for your next party, look them up and support their hard work!
