Earlier this summer California Pizza Kitchen opened it’s brand new restaurant in the Woodlands, Texas. The waterfront property is located on Restaurant Row at Hughes Landing, situated along the popular, scenic Lake Woodlands. This new spaces features a lively, open kitchen format with a pizza-toss view!
For those of you who love California Pizza Kitchen pizzas, pastas, main plates, appetizers, salads, sides and hand-crafted cocktails, you will be even more excited about their new menu items and cocktails. The Fire-Grilled Ribeye and Blueberry Ginger Smash are just two that come to mind. Click here for the full menu. I stopped in to try out their seasonal inspired summer menu and was totally surprised when not a single slice of pizza crossed my table. Not complaining as the items that did cross my plate were delicious and transformed my thoughts about CPK only being a pizza place.
We started our eating journey with the Maine Lobster flatbread and the Avocado Club egg rolls, of which were filled with the most creamy avocados ever.
Once we got through the two appetizers we started in on the full, seasonally inspired menu, not to exclude their new cocktails.. We literally ordered each dish on the menu. We were presented with the California Fields Salad, the Fire-grilled Ribeye, the Hearth Roasted Halibut and the Chicken Picatta!
The California Fields salad was great and I love the incorporation of watermelon! Perfect for the summer time.
The Fire-Grilled Ribeye, from what I hear, was cooked to perfect. The fingerling potatoes were great. I did eat some of those.
I fell head over heels for the halibut because it was so flavorful, flaky and buttery. Reminded me of crab legs and butter, which happens to be another favorite of mine. The Halibut was served on a bed of butternut squash and farro. I absolutely love both of those ingredients. So needless to say this dish received 5 stars from me without a doubt.
The Chicken Picatta had a nice char to the outside that added a nice texture to the dish.
I couldn’t leave without trying all 3 of California Pizza Kitchen’s newest cocktails and of course when I heard that one of them was made with real avocados I was done and had no interest in the rest. Don’t get me wrong, I drank them. We were served the Executive Decision, California Roots and the Blueberry Ginger Smash.
