TRUE FOOD KITCHEN – Healthy eating in the Galleria Area
I love a place where the food is not only tasty, but the menu offers a variety of “healthy” options for all eaters from vegetarian. to vegan, to ravenous carnivore. At True Food Kitchen not only do you feel better about your dining options, but you live longer because of those choices. Located on the corner of Post Oak and San Felipe, True Food Kitchen is projected to be a huge success in the area. True Food Kitchen offers brunch, lunch, and dinner for the healthy, cost conscious eater. I had the pleasure of attending their soft opening where as their guests my companion and I were treated to our choice of “share-able” app, 2 entrees and dessert.
We started with the Kale and Avocado dip served with flax crackers. The freshness of the avocado was second to none. I love avocados! Freshly mashed avocados with a little lemon, fresh cilantro and salt and pepper..simple. TFK adds a little “zing” to their dip by adding pink grapefruit in place of the lemon & poblano peppers for a little heat. The flax chips tasted like the best tortilla chips I had ever not had in my life. The Bison burger was ok. I think it would have been even better if an egg would have been suggested. That would have really brought out the flavors in the cheese and meat.
But, the icing on the cake had to be the Strawberry Rhubarb crisp served with vanilla ice cream. It was so good that there was a small debate about how the last bite was to be rationed. Luckily for me, my lunch date was “watching her figure,” and in addition to watching her figure, she had the pleasure of watching me eat the last of the crisp.
Make sure to try their healthy beverages! The “Green Arnie” was my favorite. A mixture of Matcha green tea and house made honey lemonade. Light and refreshing.
