Culturemap Social Presented by Lexus
Culturemap one of Houston’s top rated online magazines hosts “Culturemap Socials” each quarter where young professionals are invited to a happening location, sometimes on the food and drink circuit for a happy hour event that is both fun and purposeful.
Tonight guests mingled with friends, made new connections and learned about featured non-profit organizations like Friends of DePelchin and Memorial Hermann Heroes in Health. This particular social was presented by Lexus and hosted at The Gateway Memorial City.
Tuna Tartare on a Taro chip and Ceviche Canapes
I don’t frequent this area as much since I relocated but there are some great restaurants in the area. Vallones, KUU and Churrasco’s provided the bites for the evening and everything was delicious and filling.
KUU served Tuna Tartare on a Taro chip and a bite of Yellowtail Carpaccio, very nice start my eating frenzy. Churrascos provided the more heavy hitting bites (the ones that help you coat your stomach before the DRINKS begins) of beef and chicken empanadas and fried plantain chips with various dipping sauces. There were some ceviche canapes under a heat lamp. I’ve learned that you have to be careful when serving something on a “chip” because it runs the risk of being soggy..totally happened… I ate it though..no complaints.
Not sure what the dessert was, although I did eat it. Seemed like a cake of some sort with whipped cream…
The photo below is possibly why I can’t recall the last couple of things I ate. When I walked into the event I was given 3 drink tickets that you can use on a specialty “themed” cocktail, wine or beer. Couple things about me:
- I am a total beer snob and only really enjoy crafts, stouts and nitros. I am currently In the middle of tasting and reviewing 6 craft beers I scored while in Alabama. (@StraighToAle – Milk Stout is a current favorite)
- I always have a bottle of Bordeaux locked and loaded in my wine cabinet. I rarely order wine when I’m out.
So that only left me to try all of the cocktails. Stillhouse Moonshine (@MOONSHINE) seemed to be the common thread among the drinks. It was pretty tasty but SUPER strong — again, no complaints. Some of the drinks were mixed with rum, whiskey, or ginger beer. As my girlfriend and I knocked them back like it was a race all I can tell you is that there was alcohol in each one of them. Thanks to the heavy handed bartenders people were having a great time sampling the various drinks…and I do mean a GREAT TIME!!
GG and her Gateway-Tini
The Crown Tower
I tasted the Gateway-Tini, the Memorial City Mallhattan, and the Crown Tower.. twice I think. The funny part was the serving glasses kept changing.. leading me to believe there were more drinks being served, than were listed on the menu. I asked one of the bartenders and was told that the restaurants were bringing over whatever glasses they had to make the serving process run smoothly.
As customary with Culturemap we received great parting gifts! Nothing beats a swag bag I swear to you. The excitement that comes with not knowing what’s inside them makes me feel like Christmas!
I can’t wait to try all the restaurants that were on site, especially with the discounts and coupons we were given. The smores in a jar can’t be beat. With “winter” on its way this will make a great treat with some hot chocolate.. I can’t wait..
